Study Guide - February 11-15, 2019

This study guide is designed for the workweek of February 11-15, 2019.

Opening Prayer

Let’s begin with a simple prayer before we begin our study today. If you don’t know what to pray, consider something like the following:

Father, thank you for the gift of your Son, Jesus Christ, and the salvation found only in him. As I study your Word today, please guide me by your Spirit. Help me to understand, believe, trust, and live in fuller view of the truth that sets me free. For your glory, I ask this in the precious name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

This Week’s Bible Reading

Let’s now take a minute and complete today’s Bible reading:

February 11 - Mark 2

February 12 - Mark 3

February 13 - Mark 4

February 14 - Mark 5

February 15 - Mark 6

After reading, what questions do you have? What encouraged you? What convicted you?

This Week’s Bible Teaching

This short video by our friends at The Bible Project explains the Gospel of Mark. Take a few minutes to watch it; it will help explain what you’re reading.

This Week’s New City Catechism

A catechism is a teaching tool designed to help us learn the truths of the Christian faith in Q&A format. Here is this week’s New City Catechism Q&A.

Q6. How can we glorify God?

A. We glorify God by enjoying him, loving him, trusting him, and by obeying his will, commands, and law.

This Week’s Memory Verse

Deuteronomy 11:1

You shall therefore love the Lord your God and keep his charge, his statutes, his rules, and his commandments always.

This Week’s Catechism Teaching

The following video explains the teaching of this catechism Q&A in fuller detail.

Closing Prayer

Great job! You’re on your way to a thorough reading of the entire New Testament, as well as study of basic Christian doctrine using the New City Catechism.

Let’s close our time in God’s Word and truth in prayer. This might be a good time to pray for your daily needs, while also interceding in pray on behalf of your family and friends in need. If you don’t know what to pray, consider something like this:

Father, thank you for not leaving us in darkness, but instead sending the light of your Son, Jesus, into the world. I praise you for your goodness and grace to me, especially as I consider and confess the many ways in which I fall short of your glory every day. Thank you for your mercy and kindness to me. Please [share various concerns and needs]. In the power of your Spirit and in the name of your Son, I pray. Amen.
