Our Welcome Team: New Rhythm, Same Mission

Join the Welcome Team | One Sunday a Month Makes a Difference

Some people walk into church smiling. Others walk in scared. Some come eager to reconnect with faith. Others come because they’ve run out of places to turn.

And every single one of them is precious to God.

That’s why our Welcome Team exists: to help every guest feel seen, safe, and spiritually invited. Not with fanfare or flashy programs, but with eye contact. With warmth. With a sense of readiness that says, “We were hoping you’d come today.”

If you’ve ever wondered how you could serve in a meaningful, people-centered way, here’s a simple invitation:

Give us one Sunday a month.

And let’s help others feel at home in God’s house.

Four Sundays. Four Opportunities. One Mission.

We’re building a recurring Welcome Team that serves once a month on a specific Sunday: First, Second, Third, or Fourth.

That means you can pick a Sunday that fits your rhythm, your schedule, or even your Growth Group or ministry team commitments. Then, you serve just that Sunday each month.

Whether you’re a door-holder, a coffee-refiller, or just someone who knows how to offer a smile, there’s a place for you on the team.

Here’s what we’re building:

  • First Sunday Team
You set the tone for the entire month. Perfect for those who like to “go first” and start things well.
  • Second Sunday Team
The most consistent Sunday of the month, great for those who like a steady groove.
  • Third Sunday Team
The Sunday on which we observe the Lord's Supper.
  • Fourth Sunday Team
You help end the month strong, and often connect with families settling into a rhythm.

You’ll be placed in one of three roles:

  • Door Greeter
  • Lobby Greeter
  • Welcome Desk Attendant

Training is provided. Team camaraderie is strong. And the joy of making someone feel welcomed in Christ’s name? That’s the best part.

What About Fifth Sundays?

Fifth Sundays happen just a few times a year—but they’re some of the most special.

At First Free, Fifth Sundays are Family Sundays, where kids and adults worship together, and where guests are often visiting for the first time. That makes it a perfect entry point for someone looking to dip their toe into serving.

Maybe you’re not ready to commit every month. Maybe your schedule is in flux. Or maybe you’ve just never tried this kind of ministry before.

Fifth Sundays are for you. They’re low-pressure. High-impact. And a beautiful place to begin.

Why This Matters

Let’s be honest: anyone can open a door or smile at a stranger. But when that door is opened in Jesus’ name? When that smile reflects God’s heart?

That’s more than mere hospitality. That’s ministry.

Some guests who walk through our doors are carrying deep hurts. Some are taking their first steps toward God. Some are back after years of someone praying. And what they encounter in the first 30 seconds will either draw them in or quietly push them away.

You could be the reason they stay.

You could be the person God uses to whisper, You’re not alone. You’re welcome here.

Take the Next Step

Ready to serve? Just fill out a quick interest form. Let us know:

  • Which Sunday you’re interested in (First, Second, Third, Fourth, or Fifth)
  • If there’s a role that fits you best, or if you’re willing to try any!
  • If you’re brand-new or would like to shadow first

We’ll take it from there.

Let’s build a team that helps build up others. One Sunday at a time.

Because God welcomed us—what a joy to welcome others.
