Should I use "The Message"?
The most famous Bible paraphrase, The Message, by Eugene Peterson, attempts to re-tell the content of the Old and New Testaments in clear and highly readable language. As such, it is not a literal equivalence (word-for-word) or dynamic equivalence (thought-for-thought) translation of the Hebrew and Greek Scriptures.
While paraphrases like The Message can be enjoyable to read and even somewhat helpful, they are not Bibles in the truest sense. Christians should, therefore, use them only sparingly and never in place of a faithful translation of Scripture.
